Welcome to my channel! This is Andy from I love languages. Let's learn different languages/dialects together.
Special Thanks to Chantal :D
Kinyarwanda is a Bantu language and the national language of Rwanda. It is a dialect of the Rwanda-Rundi language, also spoken in Burundi, parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda (where it's known as Rufumbira or Urufumbira), and Tanzania. Kinyarwanda is universally spoken by the native population in Rwanda and is mutually intelligible with Kirundi, the national language of Burundi. Additionally, Kinyabwishya and Kinyamulenge are mutually intelligible dialects spoken in the North Kivu and South Kivu provinces of the DR Congo.
Rwanda is a landlocked country in the Great Rift Valley of Central Africa, where the African Great Lakes region and Southeast Africa converge. Situated just south of the Equator, it is bordered by Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Known as the "land of a thousand hills" due to its high elevation and mountainous terrain in the west, it also features savanna in the southeast and numerous lakes. Rwanda is the most densely populated mainland African country and the fifth most densely populated country in the world. Its capital and largest city is Kigali. Rwanda produced 2.6 million tonnes of banana in 2019, its largest cash crop. Rwanda's national parks are protected ecosystems and wildlife reserves located in east central Africa. As of 2020, these include Volcanoes National Park, Akagera National Park, and Nyungwe Forest.
The Banyarwanda are a Bantu ethnolinguistic supraethnicity with minorities in Burundi, DR Congo, Uganda, and Tanzania. They descend from diverse groups that migrated to the area over time. The earliest inhabitants were late Stone Age hunter-gatherers, followed by early Iron Age settlers who made pottery and iron tools. Some theories link these early inhabitants to the Twa, an aboriginal pygmy hunter-gatherer group still present today. Between 700 BC and 1500 AD, various Bantu groups migrated into the region, clearing forests for agriculture. Music and dance play a vital role in Banyarwanda ceremonies, festivals, social gatherings, and storytelling. The most famous traditional dance includes the umushagiriro (cow dance) by women, the intore (dance of heroes) by men, and drumming on ingoma drums by men. Traditional arts and crafts, particularly woven baskets and bowls like the agaseke, are common and originally served functional purposes.
