- Axoneme is the central, longitudinal, microtubular structure of cilium and flagellum.
- It is surrounded by a membrane which is continuous with the plasma membrane.
- All the components of the axoneme are embedded within the matrix.
- Lateral appendages are again classified into 5 types they are:-
1. Stichonematic
2. Pantonematic
3. Acronematic
4. Pantacronematic
5. Anematic
