It’s all about maths!

This video is going to show how to measure the amount of thread that we need for a tatting pattern.

Different sizes of thread will have different results, so, you can’t use this estimation for other brand / size of threads.

Also, everyone’s tension is different, so, do some experiments and record down your own measurements.

NOTE: the extra length for tails and picots can be longer (not 30cm), because it really depends on which pattern, and how big the work is. If there are lots of picots in the round, then you will need add more extra thread for the picots.

When estimating the stitches for the rings and chains, also need to check if the rings and chains are tatted with shuttle 1 or 2.

It can be a lot of work to do the calculation.

I personally do not do this ‘prediction’ before I tat, because I usually just ‘take a guess’ of how much I need.
But I know that some tatters do concern about it, and don’t want to waste the thread, or don’t have enough threads on shuttles for a project.

Hope this video will help you!

Enjoy!
