Grafting can be practical, and it can also be fun. I grafted a Long Purple eggplant onto an Ichiban II eggplant. I ended up harvesting two types of eggplant fruit from one single plant.
Seeing them growing side by side was a real treat for me. I use a grafting technique called cleft grafting, and I did it while the plant was growing out in the garden.
The fruits on the Long Purple are a little longer and more slender than the fruit on the Ichiban II. Both varieties are very productive.
