Aswad Eggplants originate from Iraq. They are heat tolerant and drought tolerant, which is mainly why I decided to grow them this year. Even though we didn't have an extremely hot summer, we did have a relatively dry summer. Our single Aswad eggplant sailed through it without missing a beat. The huge fruits that the Awad produces are good tasting, and seem to have fewer seeds than some other types.
