Asturian is a Romance language spoken in Asturias, a region in northern Spain. Part of the Asturleonese linguistic group, it is closely related to Leonese and Mirandese, with influences from Latin, Spanish, and Celtic languages. Though it is recognized and promoted in Asturias, Asturian lacks official status, limiting its institutional use. It has around 100,000 fluent speakers and an additional 450,000 with some knowledge of the language. Asturian has been preserved through oral traditions, folklore, and modern literature, with efforts to standardize and revive its use in schools and public life.

Castilian Spanish, is the standard variety of the Spanish language, originating in the Castile region of Spain. It serves as the linguistic foundation for modern Spanish spoken worldwide and is one of Spain's official languages. Historically emerging from Vulgar Latin, it expanded during the Reconquista and became standardized in the 15th century with the advent of the printing press and works like Antonio de Nebrija’s grammar. Today, Castilian Spanish is spoken by millions in Spain and serves as the benchmark for teaching and broadcasting Spanish globally.
