Lecture 03
In this lecture, we begin the study of DC–DC converters, one of the most important building blocks of electric vehicle power electronics. The lecture explains the need for onboard converters, the role of inductors, capacitors, and diodes in power conversion, and provides a detailed analysis of the Buck (Step-Down) Converter operating in Continuous Conduction Mode (CCM) and Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM).
The derivation of voltage conversion ratio, current relationship, minimum inductance, capacitor design, and converter waveforms are discussed in a simple and systematic manner, making this lecture ideal for students studying Power Electronics, Electric Vehicles, and DC–DC Converter Design.
