In this lecture, I will begin with a discussion of modeling before and after computers, and types of equations encountered in chemical engineering. I will discuss the solution of linear and nonlinear algebraic equations using iterative methods - direct substitution, partial substitution, and Newton Raphson method. I will discuss different types of convergence and instabilities in iterative methods.
