This lecture explores contemporary residential architecture and the evolution of modernist ideas in the 21st century, focusing on neo-modernism, flexible spatial concepts, and experimental housing design. It discusses how modern architecture continues to evolve through energy efficiency, sustainability, new materials, and technological innovations. The lecture highlights the works of Shigeru Ban, known as the “Paper Architect,” who uses paper tubes, recycled materials, and lightweight construction techniques to create flexible and sustainable living spaces. Through examples such as the Wall-less House, Paper House, and Naked House, the lecture examines ideas of universal space, movable rooms, minimal enclosure, and adaptable interiors, showing how contemporary architects challenge traditional notions of the house and redefine residential architecture.
