In this lecture, we have covered the broad impacts of urban development on ecosystem components, detailing how urbanization alters hydrology through impervious surfaces and degrades air, soil, and water quality. We have also introduced the concept of "Urban Ecosystem Disservices" to describe negative outcomes of these interactions, such as biological invasions and increased disease vectors.
