In this lecture, we have covered the concept of urban metabolism as a framework for analyzing the flows of energy, materials, and waste through cities, treating them as complex organisms. We have also traced the historical evolution of this concept from early biological analogies to modern tools like Material Flow Analysis (MFA) and discussed the critical shift needed from linear ("take-make-dispose") to circular metabolic systems for urban sustainability.
