In this lecture, we have covered the unique functions and processes of urban ecosystems, highlighting the metabolic shift from self-regulating natural cycles to technology-dependent systems. We have also examined how fundamental processes like photosynthesis, nutrient cycling, and energy flow are altered or substituted by human engineering, such as waste management systems replacing natural decomposition and fossil fuels replacing solar energy flows.
