In this lecture on Practical & Lab Demonstration: Shielded Metal Arc Welding of Steel-Microstructure and Mechanical Properties, we explore the SMAW process through both theory and hands-on demonstration. The session covers system components of SMAW, typical butt joint design, and selection of electrode diameter based on plate thickness. It also explains SMAW electrode designations (AWS, BIS), and includes a live welding demonstration followed by characterization and analysis of the weld’s structure and properties.
