This lecture describes the two primary empirical research approaches in behavioral economics: field studies and experimental studies. It discusses their respective strengths, challenges, and methodological preferences among economists and psychologists. It also introduces a hybrid method—extra-laboratory experiments—and addresses issues like incentive structures, ecological validity, and the interpretation of results.
