This lecture explores the previous concepts by focusing on the benefited/submerged areas ratio and its application in the Sardar Sarovar and Karjan Dam projects. Using remote sensing and GIS, the study visualizes the extent of submerged areas and the corresponding benefit areas, emphasizing vegetation growth as a key indicator. The methodology involves simulating reservoirs and analyzing stream flow within the Deccan Trap area to understand groundwater recharge dynamics. The process includes generating stream networks from DEM data, filling depressions, determining flow direction and accumulation, and applying thresholding to identify significant stream orders. This comprehensive approach aids in optimizing water resource management and assessing the impact of reservoirs on surrounding ecosystems.
