This lecture covers the principles of nonsteady-state and steady-state conditions in groundwater flow, emphasizing the differences between them. It describes the major aquifer systems in India and their characteristics, including specific yield and groundwater storage. Under steady-state conditions, the groundwater level remains constant over time, while nonsteady-state conditions are marked by changes such as the cone of depression around a pumping well. The lecture also introduces methods for analyzing these conditions, including the Theis and Thiem equations, which help in determining aquifer characteristics. The Thiem equation, in particular, is used for analyzing drawdowns and transmissibility once steady-shape conditions are established.
