Do you know why SAP had to partner with a third-party vendor just to keep its own cloud platform alive, and how that one decision shaped everything BTP looks like today? This session traces the real history of SAP BTP, from its early Neo-only days through the Cloud Foundry partnership to today's multi-environment platform, and explains exactly why side-by-side extension and clean core became SAP's core strategy. If you've ever wondered why BTP exists at all, beyond "SAP said so", this is the session that finally connects the dots.

A recap of cloud deployment models (public, private, hybrid, multi-cloud) and the IaaS/PaaS/SaaS layers they run on
Why customizing your core ERP with Z-tables and custom code became unsustainable, and how that led directly to the clean core strategy
The real difference between side-by-side extension and in-app extension, and when to use each
The complete historical evolution of BTP: from SAP's Sybase acquisition and Microsoft Gateway partnership, through the Cloud Foundry partnership, to today's SAP Business Technology Platform branding
Why SAP stopped expanding the Neo environment and shifted entirely toward Cloud Foundry, and later added Kyma and the ABAP environment
How Joule and generative AI capabilities are now being layered directly into BTP's side-by-side extension model
A first look at BTP account provisioning, the cockpit, trial account setup, service marketplace, and cloud connector basics ahead of the next hands-on session
