What happens when AI can understand not just your SAP ABAP code, but the development lifecycle around it? If you're an ABAP developer or SAP technical consultant, AI can go far beyond simply generating code. From understanding legacy ABAP and analyzing functional specifications to debugging, documentation, testing, and integration, AI can become part of your daily development workflow. But the real advantage isn't replacing SAP technical expertise, it's combining deep SAP knowledge with AI capabilities.
Chapters:
00:00 - Introduction: Moving Beyond Basic ABAP Code Generation
00:27 - Discovery & Legacy Code Analysis: Summarizing Unfamiliar ABAP
01:12 - Translating Functional Specs to Technical Architectures
01:46 - AI-Assisted Development & The Need for Developer Judgment
02:24 - Root Cause Analysis, Debugging, & Automated Technical Documentation
03:10 - Modern Integration: APIs, OData, MCP (Model Context Protocol), & AI Architecture
03:59 - Career Evolution: Elevating ABAP & SAP Technical Skills with AI
In this video, you’ll learn:
How AI can help analyze and understand large, unfamiliar SAP ABAP programs
How Claude can assist with identifying business logic, dependencies, tables, methods, and areas for investigation
How AI can help translate a functional specification into technical considerations
How AI can support ABAP development, code explanations, implementation approaches, and code review
How SAP developers can use AI to accelerate debugging and root-cause analysis
How AI can create initial technical documentation, knowledge-transfer notes, and test documentation
Why SAP technical consultants need to understand APIs, OData, integration, security, and enterprise AI architecture
How MCP (Model Context Protocol) can provide a standardized way for AI applications to interact with approved tools and context
Why authentication, authorization, governance, access control, and change management remain critical
How experienced ABAP knowledge becomes even more valuable when combined with AI and MCP
AI can accelerate the work, but the consultant still owns the technical judgment. Don't start over. Build AI on top of the SAP expertise you already have. If you're an SAP ABAP developer, technical consultant, integration professional, or SAP implementation specialist, understanding AI-assisted development can help you prepare for the next evolution of SAP technology.
