Your AI can follow instructions perfectly, but what happens when a hacker gives it the wrong instructions?
Welcome to Prompt Injection, a major security risk in AI applications!
In Video 27 of the AI Driven Cyber Security Complete Course 2026, we start Phase 4: Securing AI Systems (LLM Security). In this lesson, you'll learn how attackers attempt to manipulate Large Language Models (LLMs), how direct and indirect prompt injection work, and why securing AI requires more than just a system prompt.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
What Is Prompt Injection? Understand how malicious instructions attempt to manipulate an AI's intended behavior.
Direct Prompt Injection: Learn how attackers use instructions such as "Ignore your previous instructions" in their own messages.
Indirect Prompt Injection: Understand how malicious instructions can be hidden inside emails, websites, PDFs, and documents that an AI processes.
System Prompt Override Attempts: Learn why attackers try to bypass original instructions, and why these attempts do not always succeed.
Trusted vs Untrusted Input: Understand why user supplied content and external documents must not automatically be treated as trusted instructions.
Prompt Injection vs Jailbreaking: Learn the difference between these related AI security concepts and where they overlap.
Common Attack Goals: Explore potential risks such as sensitive data exposure, unauthorized tool use, and unsafe actions by AI agents.
Prompt Injection Prevention: Understand least privilege, input and output validation, restricted tool permissions, human approval for sensitive actions, and defense in depth.
WHY PROMPT INJECTION IS DANGEROUS
An AI chatbot that only generates text has a different risk profile from an AI agent that can access private documents, databases, APIs, or connected tools.
If an attacker successfully manipulates an AI application, the consequences may extend beyond its response. This is why AI security must include application level controls, proper authorization, restricted tool access, and safeguards for sensitive operations.
Remember: A system prompt alone is not a complete security boundary.
