Course Description
Gerontological nursing,
focuses on the specialized care of older adults, addressing their physical, psychological, and social health needs. It introduces the aging process, common geriatric syndromes, and chronic conditions such as dementia, osteoporosis, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Students will learn how to assess functional abilities, promote independence, and manage complex health problems while considering the impact of aging on quality of life. The course emphasizes holistic care, including nutrition, mobility, pain management, and mental health support, along with strategies to prevent elder abuse and neglect. Ethical and legal issues, such as autonomy, informed consent, and end-of-life care, are also discussed. Practical training involves case studies and clinical experiences in geriatric wards, nursing homes, and community settings.
